I know, I know! Everybody is talking about this record around the water cooler!
Mary Jepkosgei Keitany of Kenya broke the women’s world record at the Half Marathon distance with a time of 1:05:50. This earned her $80,000 at the Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon in the United Arab Emirates.
Keitany slashed 35 seconds off the previous record held by Kenyan-born Lornah Kiplagat of the Netherlands set in 2007, in Udine, Italy. However, there is a dark cloud over this record. Keitan runs under a notorious Italian coach, has a sub par marathon time, and there are allegations of drug use. A heated discussion is already well under way over at Letsrun.com.
But since this is Trimes – and Keitany ran in day-glow green kit – then we conclude that she must be fast! No questions asked.
