Sneaker Geeks > Pearl Izumi Streak 2 + IsoTransition

Pearl Izumi – as a shoe manufacturer – barely made a blimp on the Trimes approved shoe radar (too bulky, stiff and over-cushioned for our needs and preferences).

Recently Perl Izumi has worked in collaboration with two-time IM Hawaii champion Tim de Boom to revamp their product line.  As a result, they recently revealed very promising products that may stand a chance of receiving the much coveted Trimes Seal of Approuval.

Many brands claim they are developping products with input from their sponsored professional atheletes. This time around, PI maybe be doing more than just talking the proverbial promo talk. So far, on paper, this seems to be a nice move.  Good job Pearl Izumi.

Here is a sneak peak at the Pearl Izumi Streak 2. We can imagine the talk around the Nike HQ coffee machine:

Hey guys, Pearl Izumi is realising a new shoe.  It has the same color, the same name as a product in our line. What?

Unfortunately, they don’t have exactly the same features, but they looks to be really decent shoes.  Another case of form following function?

  • Weight/Poid: 7.6 oz (size 9)
  • Midsole Height/Hauteur de la semelle
    • Heel/Talon: 19mm
    • Forefoot/Avant: 10mm

If you don’t like the above fluo colorway or you don’t want to deal with laces, PI has a more tri-specific model (that seems very similar to the previous):

Pearl Izumi isoTransition seems to be an ideal candidate for long distance triathlon. It integrates a quick-pull lacing system to make this racer easy to slip on. The seamless upper allows you to wear this shoe barefoot and offers drainage holes in the midsole to release fluid. It also features a low profile, as this seems to be a saveur du jour. The isoTransition looks like a great triathlon shoe on paper. Trimes will try to get its sneaker geek hands on them and let you know, well… first hand.
