Bytown Storm Triathlon Team sending 3 to the 2011 World Grand Final Triathlon
Championships in Beijing China

Ottawa, Ont. (Aug. 5th 2011) – The Ottawa area will be well represented in Beijing China at the International Triathlon Union (ITU) Grand Final World Championships.
Two Ottawa area athletes Tristan Woodfine and Joanna Brown as well as their coach Greg Kealey will make the early September trip to Beijing. Both Tristan and Joanna will be competing in the Junior Elite division (ages 16-19).
This will be Joanna Browns second trip to the Junior World Championships, Joanna secured her spot on the 2011 Worlds team with a bronze medal performance at the 2010 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Woodfine secured his place earlier this year with a strong top 5 finish at the Junior Pan Am Championships in Edmonton Alberta. With two of the countries top performers on the World Junior Team, Triathlon Canada chose Coach Kealey as the Junior Team Coach.
“It’s quite an honour, and exciting to be going two years in row, I would like to improve on my bronze medal performance of last year, but the field will be tough so I’m preparing as best I can” says Brown.
“I had a tough year last year, over the off season I just focused on the basics and really improved where I had to, the Worlds was my main goal and it’s awesome to be going to Beijing” remarked Tristan Woodfine.
Both athletes have been training with Coach Kealey and the Bytown Storm for the past 5 years.
“Both Tristan and Joanna discovered the sport through our youth programs and have worked really hard to get to where they are right now” says Kealey “ it’s a really busy time because we have the National Championships in two weeks (Aug 20th/21st) in Kelowna BC, then Worlds two weeks later, planning the training cycles becomes tricky with two important races so close together but these two athletes are smart and very disciplined so I think they will do very well”. There are also 5 other athletes from the The Bytown Storm competing in the National Championships in Kelowna in both the Junior Elite and U23 Elite Divisions.
The Bytown Storm Triathlon Club is Ottawa’s premier youth based triathlon club and has offered triathlon, swim, run and cycling programs to youth and adults for the past ten years. The Bytown Storm is one of the most successful competitive triathlon programs in Canada with over 15 Provincial, National and International podium finishes in the past 6 years.
Please note the team will be leaving for The National Championships August 16th and will return to Ottawa August 22nd 2011. The Worlds team will leave for Beijing Sept 5th 2011.
