Is there any other races in the world of triathlon that has more history than the Escape From Alcatraz ? Over the years, not many people won this prestigious race. We can call them »the Prestigious club » of winners. Andy Potts won 5 times(5th title today ), Chris McCormack 4 titles, Mike Pigg 4 titles and Simon Lessing three titles. Not bad hey ? Kemper won two times. These men together won 18 out of 31 editions.
Today, Potts won the race on the bike with a very solid 45min41 sec bike split, two minutes faster than Courtney Atkinson who finished second. Bevan Docherty was third.
Andrew Russell from Victoria BC, member of the Trimes Team, had a very solid overall race, finishing 6th. He had a good battle with fellow Canadian John Bird from Calgary. Bird, who came in 5th place, had a tremendous swim-bike segment but was a minute and thirty second slower than Russell on the run. The latest, missed the top 5 by only 14 second. Good job to both of these very good canadian athlete.
